Chief Advisor Maori Strategic Advice and Engagement .5 FTE Part Time role
Critical te ao Maori leadership and engagement role.
Can you provide strategic leadership, cultural advice and guidance to the Commission to ensure we are positioned to deliver our responsibilities to support the Crown-Maori relationship and te ao Maori?

He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission is an independent agency dedicated to driving climate action in Aotearoa New Zealand, with a strong statutory mandate. We provide impartial, evidence-based advice to the Government on mitigating and adapting to climate change. We also monitor progress towards emissions reduction and adaptation goals and report on this publicly.
Join the Commission as we expand our efforts from primarily mitigation to a comprehensive approach that includes adaptation, the national climate risk assessment, and monitoring the country's progress on climate action. Te Turanga | The role
The Chief Advisor Maori will be a critical executive leadership team member positioned as an influential strategic adviser to the Chief Executive. This new role will be primarily focused on providing leadership, engagement, and strategic cultural advice to ensure the Commission is well positioned to deliver our responsibilities to support the Crown-Maori relationship, te ao Maori and specific effects on iwi and Maori.
The Chief Advisor Maori will build and maintain relationships with iwi, hapu and whanau and support the Chief Executive to ensure the voices of Maori are strong and heard in our advice on climate adaptation and mitigation.
The role will also support the Chief Executive to grow the cultural capability within the Commission and support the executive leadership team to develop and implement a Te Tiriti o Waitangi statement, framework and action plan to support the Commission in meeting its commitments to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

To be successful in this new role you will have established relationships and deep connections with iwi and Maori and:

Deep understanding of Tikanga Maori and Te Reo Maori (fluency desired).
Extensive knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with the ability to bring the essence and intentions of Te Tiriti to life in a way that is relevant for today.
Maori leadership experience and ability to work with and influence senior leaders and decision-makers to achieve organisational objectives, including in supporting the Maori - Crown relationship.
Established networks across and within iwi, Maori and government
The gravitas and resilience required to develop a high-profile presence to represent the Climate Change Commission effectively.
Exemplary stakeholder engagement and demonstrated ability and mana to influence and lead at a system level.
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders, including understanding different stakeholder's motivations and the ability to influence and persuade.
Demonstrated high levels of integrity.
Experience mentoring people within the organisation and sector and/or leading the development of technical capability.

The likely appointment range for this role is between $217,448 and $255,822 per annum pro-rata.
