As one of two tertiary laboratories within New Zealand, we work collaboratively with a wide variety of partners across Health and other sectors locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.At Canterbury Health Laboratories, our pathologists are supported by an extensive team of scientific officers, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists and support staff, working collaboratively with our colleagues in the wider system to deliver health care to our communities through our wide range of core and specialist pathology services.Mo te tunga | About the roleWe are currently seeking a medically qualified Chemical Pathologist to join our team; the department has three Chemical Pathologists and a registrar.Canterbury Health Laboratories is a public hospital laboratory supporting Christchurch Hospital - the tertiary level hospital for Te Waipounamu (NZ South Island). We provide a 24/7 core laboratory service for the hospital and urgent community services and provide specialist testing for the wider regional and nationally for some services. We have a strong record of test development, and involvement with research; Specialist services cover a broad range of biochemistry testing including toxicology, endocrine, metabolic and protein biomarkers utilizing a good range of instruments including MS/MS, Q-TOF, TOF and ICP-MS. The department is involved in delivering a national antenatal screening programme. There is a focus on quality and the laboratory holds accreditation to ISO 15189. Canterbury Health Laboratories has links to the University of Otago and we provide biochemistry teaching for 4th and 5th year medical students; the laboratory is also accredited for training by the RCPA.As a Chemical Pathologist at Canterbury Health Laboratories, you would be involved in chemical pathology test reporting, validation and implementation of new tests, mentoring and training of biochemistry scientific staff and clinical governance, as permitted by your scope of practice.
