Chefs Wanted Location: Christchurch Employment Type: Full-time (Guaranteed 30 hours per week), Permanent Pay: $29.66 - $32.00 per hour We are a well-established restaurant based in Christchurch, and we're looking to expand our team by hiring a talented Chef. Our restaurant operates 7 days a week, and your shifts will follow a rotating roster, including weekends and late evenings. Requirements: A minimum of three years of relevant experience in the culinary field OR a relevant qualification/certificate. Key Responsibilities: Design and plan diverse menu items that cater to different dietary preferences while staying true to authentic Mexican cuisine. Manage the procurement process, ordering food and supplies, while implementing cost-control measures to reduce wastage and increase profitability. Calculate food costs by analyzing ingredient prices, usage, and waste, while optimizing labor costs through staffing assessments and wage management. Prepare and cook a wide variety of Mexican dishes, following established recipes and continually refining techniques to improve the dining experience. Train and mentor kitchen staff on new cooking methods and equipment, encouraging a culture of ongoing learning and skill enhancement. Monitor the quality of both raw and cooked food products to ensure compliance with food safety standards and maintain high culinary standards. Collaborate closely with management, nutrition experts, culinary staff, and front-of-house teams to address and resolve any food preparation issues. Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, and stored, with regular checks for cleanliness and organization. Enforce hygiene protocols and reinforce staff adherence to standards. Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new kitchen staff as needed. Oversee the proper freezing and preservation of food to ensure freshness, safety, and customer satisfaction.
