We are currently seeking an experienced Overhead Linesworker (Chargehand) to join our team for projects with Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) in the Manweb region.
Position Overview: As an Overhead Linesworker (Chargehand), you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of linesworkers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical lines.
Reporting to the project manager, you will oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and project timelines.
Responsibilities: Supervising and coordinating the activities of a team of overhead linesworkers to ensure efficient and safe execution of tasks.
Conducting installation, maintenance, and repair tasks on overhead power lines in compliance with industry standards, company procedures, and safety regulations.
Providing hands-on assistance and guidance to team members in pole climbing, rigging, and other line work activities.
Operating specialized equipment and machinery, including hydraulic platforms, winches, and tensioning devices, as needed to support line work operations.
Conducting regular inspections and patrols to identify defects, faults, or potential hazards in overhead line infrastructure.
Assisting with fault diagnosis and troubleshooting efforts, utilizing testing equipment and diagnostic tools as required.
Collaborating closely with the project manager and other stakeholders to plan and coordinate work activities, resources, and schedules.
Ensuring all work is completed accurately and in compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and client specifications.
Participating in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Maintaining accurate records, including work reports, logs, and documentation, as per company procedures and project requirements.
Qualifications: Hold relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Power Line Safety (APL) or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience working as an Overhead Linesworker (Chargehand) or similar role within the power distribution industry.
Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
Proficient knowledge of overhead line construction, maintenance, and repair techniques, including pole climbing and rigging procedures.
Familiarity with safety regulations, standards, and best practices applicable to overhead line work (e.g., ENA Engineering Recommendations, HSE guidelines).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
Valid full UK driving license with the ability to drive company vehicles as required.
Location: The position is based in the Manweb region of Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN), with travel to various project sites within the operational area.
