A permanent opportunity has become available for the PACU Charge Nurse Manager position. Our PACU provides care to patients recovering from local, regional and general anaesthesia. This patient demographic requires comprehensive monitoring and highly skilled nurses to manage their care. PACU is a dynamic environment where the workload can be intense and unpredictable. Patients from all surgical specialities will enter PACU, and this makes it an ideal environment in which to learn and grow.

The roles of the Charge Nurse Manager include championing change processes, promoting staff and patient safety and advocating for the service within the department. You will also be responsible for recruiting and retaining team members alongside the ACNMs.

Key responsibilities of the role:

Manage systems, processes and resources that enable staff to meet the needs of patient/tangata whaiora in an efficient and effective manner

Provide clinical leadership for multi-disciplinary team

Provide professional leadership to the nursing team, developing nursing services and monitoring quality, including standards of practice and service standards

Contribute to the achievement of strategic direction for defined areas

Foster a professional environment, effective communication and contribute to an environment of mutual respect.

Mou | About you

Skills and experience you'll need to be considered for the role:

Senior Nurse, with proven leadership experience.

At least 5 years continuous demonstrated clinical expertise in PACU/Critical Care environment in a tertiary hospital

Demonstrated highly effective written and verbal communication.

Evidence of embedding a change into clinical practice.

People management – performance management, conflict resolution and team building.

Minimum PG Certificate in Nursing / Leadership.

The Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) is a key component of the Theatre and Anaesthesia department at Waikato Hospital. PACU serves 25 Operating Theatres and provides care for 80-100 patients every weekday from every surgical specialty including General Surgery, Vascular, Cardiothoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Paediatrics, Delivery Suite, Gynaecology, Maxillofacial and more. On the weekends, PACU provides care for acute cases from a variety of specialties.
