Casual Biosecurity Field Officer - New Plymouth National Invasive Ant (NIAS)/Black Grass Surveillance AsureQuality's Biosecurity team are looking for several people in regions across NZ to help deliver services that protect New Zealand against exotic pests and disease incursions. Dates of work: Starting early December 2024 until end of March 2025, with training to be provided. Pay: $26.23 per hour + 8% holiday pay Location: New Plymouth These casual roles will involve varying hours. This means the hours could be anything from 0 to 40 hours per week. Can only be worked during daylight hours, as these roles involve working outdoors. Responsibilities: In this role you will… Deliver biosecurity surveillance & response field services for the National Invasive Ant Surveillance programme (NIAS). Work in a team of 2-4 to undertake site inspections, trapping/surveillance work, data recording and sample handling looking for exotic ants at high-risk sites such as seaports, airports & transitional facilities. Potentially help out other Biosecurity teams with Fruit Fly Surveillance, Black Grass, National Interest Pest Response (NIPR), Pest plant control and Ecological restoration programmes. Respect matauranga (understanding) Maori and local tikanga (culture) and encourage their practice in our roles. About you: Be physically fit and able to walk for long periods of time. Able to commit to work hours at short notice (we often give 1-7 days notice for upcoming work hours, due to the nature of the work). Able to use phone apps and computer technology. Respect for Te Reo me ona tikanga Maori and other cultures. Can-do attitude and a great work ethic. Previous experience in Biosecurity is highly desirable but not essential. A full, clean New Zealand drivers licence is desired but not essential.
