About us
The Ministry of Social Development is a people-centred organisation. We're in communities across the motu, working with partners to help New Zealanders be safe, strong, and independent.
We provide social policy and advice to government and assistance, including income, employment, and housing support to people of all ages, families, whanau, and communities.
As a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner we are committed to supporting and enabling Maori, whanau, hapu, Iwi, and communities to realise their own potential and aspirations.
Our people are as diverse as the communities we serve. We care about the wellbeing and success of our people and provide a supportive and inclusive working environment where people can thrive and be who they are.
What you'll be doing
As the face of the organisation, you will be working alongside whanau to find out what is important to them and to support them into training or employment opportunities. The whanau we serve come from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. You will empower whanau to take the lead in developing and achieving their goals.
You will build strong relationships and work collaboratively with others to enhance outcomes for whanau. You will need to develop and maintain relationships with your peers and partner agencies to give and receive support when needed.
You will be organised, with sound decision-making and problem-solving skills. You will also bring a high level of personal integrity and initiative and be able to take ownership and responsibility to follow through and deliver for the people in our community.
We are seeking motivated people who are passionate about helping people from diverse backgrounds, and who have an aspiration for the whanau of Tairawhiti to flourish, whilst being immersed within the community.
Be purposeful: show care and warmth, give support to others. Look after the dignity of people through the expression of manaaki.
Be resilient: the work is fast-paced and demanding. You will be highly dependable and have the grit and tenacity to show up and be in the mahi, bringing developed strategies with you to cope with pressure in an ever-changing environment.
Be open: be fully present and listen intently without judgement to what is being said, empathise with whanau and their experiences, thoughts, and feelings.
What's in it for you
We are committed to providing you with a positive work environment. You will be a part of a team that embraces diversity and encourages learning, working with a team of people from a variety of backgrounds, with a variety of skills and experiences, who want to get great results for New Zealanders.
Our values represent who we are and what we stand for - if this appeals to you, do not hesitate, apply now!
To apply, click the 'Apply Now' button to upload your CV, cover letter and complete the online application form. Note: Your cover letter will be a key part of our assessment process, so please highlight how your experience relates to the key responsibilities listed in the position description.
