MATES in Construction is an evidence-based suicide awareness and prevention programme for the Construction industry.
Support is provided to the industry through education, support, training and workforce capacity strengthening, building communities of mates who help mates.The MATES team are looking for Case Managers to join them on 12-month, fixed term agreements (starting late Feb / early March 2025).
These roles will be based in Auckland and Christchurch.Case Managers work closely with individuals and/or worksites to engage, build rapport and initiate conversations around mental health and wellbeing, and to identify and address concerns relating to mental health and/or suicide.
Case Managers provide short term 1:1 support for workers who have reached out following a MATES training, toolbox or site visit, or who have contacted the MATES 0800 helpline.
This support is provided either face to face, online or in person.
You must be passionate about supporting the mental health of the construction industry, have demonstrated experience holding a caseload and working 1:1 with workers, and an in-depth knowledge of mental health and suicide in a community context.You will need to be a fast learner, have good attention to detail and ideally be confident presenting training sessions and facilitating small and large groups (full training on material provided).Other Responsibilities:Promoting the MATES in Construction Programme across the industry.Build and support volunteer networks on site.Engage with all parts of the MATES in Construction organisation.Attend networking, fundraising and partner events.Engage with the wider health and community sector.To be Considered:A current full New Zealand driver's license is required.Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling and preferably registration (or ability to quickly gain) with a relevant professional body e.g.
ANZSWRB, NZAC.You will need to be able to travel within New Zealand when required.A flexible and mature mindset, along with a calm, measured approach to working in a reactive environment.Highly developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills including the ability to liaise with workers and employers from the construction industry.Demonstrated experience working within the mental health and/or community services sector using a partnership, strengths-based and client-centred approach, and confident and experienced in assessing risk.
Awareness of the challenges in the construction community would be advantageous.Demonstrated ability to work independently, be organised and flexible within a team, manage workloads, set goals, and establish priorities to ensure deadlines and commitments are met.Reasonable administration and computer skills.Proven ability to build relationships in an effective and sensitive manner with employers and workers, particularly with workers who are at times experiencing significant levels of distress.To be considered, please click the apply button and attach your CV and cover letter addressing the key 'to be considered' points.Applicants must be available for a 2-day training course on the 4 & 5 February 2025.Please note that due to the number of applications we receive, only successful candidates with relevant experience for the role will be contacted.
