Our Pareora site in Timaru is the second largest site in our Silver Fern Farms network, employing over 700 people in peak season. We are looking for a motivated, skilled Carpenter to join our engineering team. Responsible for the servicing, planned and reactive maintenance and support in our fast-paced food production facility.
Our Engineering team is required to work to cover production hours Monday to Friday with regular, paid overtime on Saturdays. This role is a day shift with the odd occasion to work outside of these hours to meet the needs of our business.
Responsibilities: Undertake repairs and maintenance to buildings, plant and equipment to minimise plant or equipment failure.
Ensure any breakdowns in equipment or process is back to full production capacity within the shortest time, whilst always ensuring yours and others health and safety.
Ensure buildings are maintained so they are fit for purpose.
Encourage a health and safety focussed culture through personal participation in H&S initiatives.
Food hygiene regulations are complied with when working in areas controlled by MPI regulations.
Qualifications: Previous experience in transferrable production environments would be an advantage, but the key is the ability to work individually and as part of a team and use analytical and problem-solving skills to provide top level service to the processing plant and engineering team. You will have good interpersonal skills and an attitude for getting stuck in to get the job done, as well as thinking outside of the box. We appreciate and encourage new ideas about opportunities to collaborate across our site to ensure we get to the root cause of issues and fix it right – first time. You will have the opportunity to be involved in projects and installation of new site equipment.
Minimum Requirements: Relevant Trades Qualification, or minimum of NZ Certificate in Carpentry.
Ability to interpret plans, blueprints, and sketches.
Proficiency in measurements, calculations, and material planning.
Ability to analyse problems and implement effective solutions in a timely manner and communicate this with those around you.
Be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and within a tight knit team of engineering and trades support.
Organised, with the ability to plan and prioritise workload in a challenging engineering environment and lead by example from the front.
Desire to keep learning and upskill – be this in a leadership scope or dual trading into refrigeration or even project design.
