Mo te tunga | About the role
We are currently seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our teams as RIDSAS Care and Support Workers.
RIDSAS is a specialised service that provides support for both male and female tangata with high or complex needs. These tangata have been directed by the Courts under the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act and will need a high level of 1:1 care to help them on their rehabilitation journey.
This includes:
Providing hands-on personal care and support in accordance with individual care plans, incorporating cultural sensitivity and respect.
Assisting clients with daily living activities, including meal preparation, household/property cleaning, and other maintenance to keep the home a healthy and safe place.
Administering medication and maintaining accurate records and documentation.
Driving to appointments, gym classes, and supermarkets, while promoting self-determination and autonomy.
Fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that embraces te ao Maori (the Maori worldview) and encourages cultural diversity.
It is important you can work to a rotating roster including weekends.
The shifts are as below:
7am - 3pm
3pm - 11pm
11pm - 7am
Ko wai koe | About You
This is an opportunity to start or grow your career in the disability sector. Working within RIDSAS will equip you with the experience and skills needed to support rehabilitation. While the successful applicant will receive training and support, we are looking for someone with the below skills and aptitudes:
Qualification in health and wellbeing or community support work, mental health, and disability sectors would be advantageous, however not mandatory.
A compassionate and patient demeanour with a genuine interest in supporting tangata with disabilities, particularly through a Kaupapa Maori lens.
Previous experience in completing personal care responsibilities is desirable.
Excellent communication in English and interpersonal skills, with a solution-focused approach to issues.
Physically fit and able to lift, along with having the ability to be on your feet for most of the day.
Please note the essentials for the role:
Full, clean class 1 driver's licence with no restrictions is mandatory, and you must be a confident and competent driver.
You must be residing in, and legally entitled to work in New Zealand on a permanent basis.
