The Cardiac Physiology service is comprised of a dedicated team of Cardiac Physiologists and Cardiac Physiology Technicians who collaborate closely with physicians, administrative, and support staff to deliver high-quality, efficient, and patient-centred care for both inpatients and outpatients.
Cardiac Physiologists are responsible for performing cardiac tests within their defined scope of practice, which demands extensive practical and technical expertise in understanding cardiac arrhythmias and their mechanisms. A key aspect of this role is maintaining a focus on patient care while upholding professional standards. Continuous education and training are essential to acquire and sustain the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the required competency standards.
The Cardiology Service is a Secondary and Tertiary service provided for Health New Zealand, Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley (CC & HV) and those of the central region of New Zealand.

Cardiac Diagnostic TestingThe Heart and Lung UnitCardiac Interventional Suite, providing the following procedures: Coronary AngiogramsCoronary intervention and CTOBalloon Valvuloplasty and TAVIPFO/ASD/LAA ClosurePacing, ICD and CRT implantsElectrophysiology Studies, 3D mapping and AblationPacing/ICD follow-up service, including remote monitoring and travelling clinicsCath Lab, Device Implants and ElectrophysiologyEchocardiographyExercise Tolerance TestingAmbulatory monitoring- Holters, Events & BPElectrocardiographyTraining of Provisional Cardiac Physiologists, Cardiac Physiology Technicians and other Health Care staffOn call serviceClinical Physiology provides a full range of diagnostic testing as an integral part of the Cardiology Service.
The CC & HV Cardiology Service is accredited as an SCT training facility.
