About the Role
We're looking for a Business Development Manager to join our dynamic and engaging Commercial Sales & Underwriting Team. You'll be responsible for the strategic management of allocated broker portfolios to achieve planned growth and profit objectives as well as identification and development of substantial business opportunities from brokers. You'll be working closely with Underwriting Managers and the underwriting team to ensure the delivery of total quality service and support to broker partners.
Key accountabilities include (but are not limited to):

Develop and grow relationships with allocated brokers to maximise business opportunities by analysing existing business profile and identifying and developing opportunities which meet segmentation, risk and profit objectives.
Build and manage relationships with assigned brokers including completing broker visitation programs to obtain new and retain existing profitable business.
Oversee underwriting of existing business and renewal business for allocated brokers.
Proactively seek sales opportunities and implement/contribute to the strategic planning and direction of the key broker portfolios and relationships.
Identify opportunities and grow profitable business from new brokers who meet the required profile.
Undertake portfolio reviews, develop a strategic business plan, and conduct ongoing reviews and reporting for allocated brokers.
In consultation with the Regional Commercial Sales Manager, Branch Manager, and the Sales Manager, proactively contribute to the strategic planning and direction of broker portfolios and relationships within the branch.
Responsible for monitoring the external and internal business environment for any potential business risks or opportunities that may affect the business teams' strategy/objectives.
Proactively contribute to improve the image and outcomes of the company within the marketplace to the external customer as well as provide excellent internal customer service.

This is an 18-month secondment role with hybrid work options. This is a nationwide role and the successful candidate has the option to work from our offices located in Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Canterbury, Dunedin, and Tauranga.
Please note: To work from home, you'll need a high-speed internet connection and a private home office setup. The successful candidate is expected to attend the office 3 days/week.

About You

Experience in the New Zealand general insurance market, particularly relating to commercial insurance, sales, product management, competitor activity, and insurance underwriting.
Excellent communication skills.
Highly developed interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated strong strategic focus.
Success-oriented and committed to achieving challenging objectives.
Demonstrated high levels of initiative and sound judgment.
Demonstrated ability to be proactive and innovative.
