Journalism & Writing (Advertising, Arts & Media) Allied Press is seeking a passionate and experienced senior journalist for the role as bureau chief of its Oamaru bureau. The position includes the role of editor of the Oamaru Mail and managing several reporters writing for the Mail and the Otago Daily Times. The Oamaru Mail was awarded the Community Newspaper of the Year at the 2021 Voyager Media Awards. This is an exciting opportunity to take the reins of a newspaper that is the beating heart of its community. Allied Press Limited is the largest independently owned media company in New Zealand. We operate across multiple media platforms (print, on-line, digital) delivering news, information and entertainment through our various regional and city publications. It is a permanent, full time position based in our Oamaru office, offering significant scope for personal and professional growth. With responsibility for the Oamaru Mail community newspaper and the Otago Daily Times coverage of the Waitaki region, your duties will include managing breaking news coverage, writing and assigning stories, directing reporters, overseeing the production of the Mail, generating ideas and liaising with editors. Strong photography, video and website skills are desirable. You will be efficient, organised, curious, able to get along with and lead reporters, have a passion for community and news and be an excellent communicator. You would ideally have spent time managing a newsroom and have broad experience in all facets of editorial production, including sub editing and design. A full NZ driver's licence is essential.
