We are looking for an experienced people leader to manage our Building Unit, ensuring Council efficiently meets its statutory responsibilities while continuing to offer a high level of customer service to our community.

Reporting to, and working closely with the General Manager Planning, Regulation and Environment, this crucial role takes responsibility for:

Effectively managing the Building Unit, ensuring compliance activities are delivered to a high standard and adhere to legislative requirements. Managing, developing and mentoring staff, while fostering a continuous improvement environment. Monitoring and regularly reviewing levels of service, ensuring these are met within budget and on time. Developing, reviewing and reporting on key performance indicators to ensure operational efficiency. Confidently presenting to Council, its committees, community boards and advisory groups as necessary. Participating at leadership level within the Planning, Regulations and Environment Group and wider organisation. Ensuring effective record management and reporting is in place to achieve ongoing Building Consent Authority accreditation. The successful candidate will:

Hold a tertiary qualification or Graduate Diploma Level 7, in Business Management, Building Surveying or similar. Have at least 15 years relevant experience, and a sound knowledge and understanding of NZ standards and related acts and regulations as they apply to buildings. Have experience in the interpretation and application of policies, legislation and regulations in Local Government. Demonstrate exceptional business insight and outstanding customer service skills. Be an excellent communicator, with sound decision-making and leadership capabilities. Lead by example, with the best interests of the team and community front of mind.
