We are seeking a skilled and experienced Bricklayer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for constructing and repairing structures, including walls, partitions, arches, and other brick constructions on mainly residential projects and occasionally commercial, and industrial projects across Canterbury/West Coast. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Bricklaying & Blocklaying: Lay bricks, blocks, and other materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, chimneys, and decorative features. Interpretation of Plans: Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and construction plans to determine materials required and installation processes. Site Preparation: Ensure the site is prepared by mixing mortar, cutting bricks, and ensuring appropriate tools are ready for use. Structural Integrity: Ensure all brickwork is level, aligned, and meets structural and safety standards. Mortar Work: Mix and apply mortar to bricks or blocks, ensuring uniform thickness and adhesion. Health & Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols on-site, including proper use of protective gear and tools. Collaboration: Work with other construction workers, supervisors, and contractors to ensure efficient completion of projects. Repair & Maintenance: Perform repairs to existing brickwork and masonry as needed. What you will bring: Experience: Ideally someone with 5+ years of hands-on experience in bricklaying or masonry. However, prepared to consider right person with less experience. Certifications: Relevant trade qualifications in bricklaying or masonry (e.g., New Zealand Certificate in Brick and Block Laying) preferred but not mandatory. Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working at heights. Attention to Detail: Strong eye for precision and high standards of craftsmanship. Knowledge of Materials: Familiarity with a wide variety of bricks, blocks, and masonry materials. Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and solve construction-related issues on- site. Driver's License: A valid New Zealand driver's license is preferred as the role requires traveling to different sites. Work Environment: Work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to work on scaffolding and in confined spaces. Potential for long hours and weekend work depending on project deadlines.
