Manager required to work closely with the Owner/Director and Assistant Manager to run our busy boarding kennel and boutique lifestyle farm.
This role is a minimum of 30 hours per week. Overtime (after forty hours per week) paid at time and a half.
Days of work: Thursday - Monday.
Fixed hours of work: 7am - 11am and 2.30pm - 5.30pm with some extra hours required between the hours of 7am and 6.30pm on designated days of work.
Further overtime and extra days will be available if wanted.
Public holidays which fall on designated work days are days of work and we require you to be available (paid at time and a half).
4 weeks annual leave.
This is a permanent full-time role.
Job location: Central Hawkes Bay. You should live in or near Waipukurau/Takapau or be prepared to move here.
We are at a rural location. You must have reliable transport which you drive yourself. No job offer will be made to a person relying on someone else to bring them to work as their main or only mode of transport.
Temporary onsite accommodation (shared) could be available for a single female applicant only while transport and/or local living arrangements are finalized.
Job requirements:
University degree or diploma at least level 4 is preferred in communications, farming, or HR fields. Alternately, 3 years experience in a management role at an equestrian facility, dog boarding facility, animal shelter or sheep farm will be considered.
Drivers License - at least Restricted.
Management Skills:
Ability to understand computer software and use computers for billing and communications.
Ability to write communications to customers, manage incoming communications, and keep the office running smoothly.
Excellent business writing skills for customer communication, letters, advertising and social media promotion.
Schedule kennel staff and manage the roster.
Navigate staff relations and escalate to the Director/assist the Director as needed.
Communicate with the vet and other animal professionals.
Team player.
Train new staff in kennel or farm tasks as required.
Love animals.
Understand positive based dog training and handling methods and communicate these to staff as needed.
Experience of training dogs and/or working in a boarding, breeding or training kennel.
Reasonable level of physical fitness and strength to manage large, unruly dogs.
Provide basic grooming (brush out, bathe, clip, nails) for dogs.
Understand feed rations and select and prepare food for individual dogs.
Co-ordinate with the dog trainer, assign staff and ensure training plans are followed between sessions.
Other animal skills.
No dog or cat allergies.
No sensory issues regarding animal, farm or disinfectant smells.
No sensory issues regarding barking dogs or other farm related noises.
Ability to pick up poop (cat, dog, sheep, rabbit, horse) when and if required.
Promote the kennel business on social media.
Promote greyhound adoption on social media.
Manage and respond to enquiries.
Event planning/project management skills for greyhound adoption promotional events.
Write articles for local newspaper or other advertising publications.
Be confident and experienced in handling sheep. Own working dog is an advantage: small flock on a small flat block, suit semi retired dog. Or the ability to work a trained dog.
Assist with bringing in the flocks and with needed tasks.
Know how to: tail a lamb, castrate a lamb, drench any sheep, treat for flystrike, treat for footrot. When to call the vet. Assist the vet as needed.
Assist the shearer as needed.
Do the lambing beat. Night shift available for this 4 week period.
Ability to drive small farm machinery.
Make temporary repairs to fencing, water pipes and water troughs.
Manage pasture including species identification, and organizing spraying, feed cutting, topping, fertilizing and other tasks as needed.
Open and willing to learn more things.

Well organized and able to plan the workload.
Must love animals.
