Posted: 17/09/2024 Closing Date: 06/10/2024 Salary: $73,000.00 - $81,000.00 Job Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: Blenheim, Marlborough Job Category: Environmental Science & Policy Department Mo tenei turanga mahi | About the role We're looking for someone who can work in a team to implement invasive plant and pest animal management programmes whilst developing effective relationships with landowners and the community.
Our Biosecurity team plays a key role in delivering strategic management of invasive species programmes throughout the Marlborough region; we need your help to maintain these programmes into the future.
Your work will play a crucial role in protecting Marlborough's biodiversity and economic values ensuring that ecosystems and primary production are protected from the impacts of invasive pest species.
This is a hands-on physical role that will take you from the High Country of South Marlborough to the outer reaches of the Marlborough Sounds.
The role would suit someone who is physically fit, loves being outdoors, likes seeing the rewards of a hard day's work and can complete administrative and record keeping tasks.
You will need to be flexible with the occasional requirement to work away from home.

A Salary range of $73,000 to $81,000 (this will depend on the knowledge, skills and experience you have to offer).

Ko nga wheako ou | About you We are looking for someone with a background in biosecurity, pest management, ecology, conservation, agriculture or environmental science, with relevant biosecurity certificates or tertiary qualification being preferred.
The successful applicant will have: Practical knowledge of commonly used pest plant control and monitoring methods and the ability to apply them.
The ability to communicate effectively with team members, individual land-owners and the community.
Experience in the use of 4WD vehicles and two wheel motorcycles.
Excellent navigation skills and general geographic awareness.
Experience operating chainsaws and firearms is preferred.
The ability to record and input data on GPS, smart phones and computers.
The ability to demonstrate knowledge of flora and fauna, agriculture, and other relevant practical outdoor skills would be advantageous.
