We are seeking reliable individuals who want to protect the beautiful Kaipatiki region and Hunua Ranges. This is the perfect opportunity to take on exciting temporary summer work and kick-start your new year.
The role:
Serious biosecurity issues, including plant disease, rodents, and plague skinks, are affecting Tamaki Makaurau/Auckland's landscape, and we want you to be a champion to prevent any more damage.
You will be educating visitors at Kaipatiki and Hunua Ranges near their mountain biking trails on the importance of preventing the spread of pests and diseases. You will be scheduled on a four-day roster and will be required to work weekends and public holidays. All Champions must also be comfortable working outdoors on your shifts and sometimes in remote locations.
Start date: The temporary assignment runs from 8th December 2024 to mid February 2025.
Hours: 30 hours per week (8:00am to 4:00pm across Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays).
Locations: Kauri Glen Reserve and Leroys Bush in Kaipatiki, and the Mangatawhiri Bikeskills station along the Hunua Traverse in the Hunua Ranges.
Pay: $27.80 per hour + 8% holiday pay.
Key responsibilities: Engaging with people in meaningful conversations, and educating visitors to the Hunua Ranges using their mountain biking trails.Encouraging best biosecurity practices, such as checking and cleaning shoes, bags, gear, and vehicles.Collecting data and reporting this to the Biosecurity Champion Coordinator.Reporting any issues and non-compliance immediately to the Biosecurity Coordinator (Please note that this is not an enforcement role).Monitoring availability of information material and distributing collateral as needed.Attending briefings and training sessions as required.The ideal candidate: Has a demonstrated interest in Aotearoa's biosecurity and conservation issues.Has access to a reliable means of transport.Has a reliable smartphone.Is an organised and reliable worker.Has strong communication and people skills and an interest in manaakitanga.Has an outgoing and engaging personality.Can problem solve effectively and make key decisions in a timely manner.What we can offer: Opportunity to build customer service skills.Training and support throughout the assignment.Opportunity to develop your skills and experience further.If this role sounds like you then apply today!
