You'll drive impactful community projects, collaborate with passionate community stakeholders, and work alongside experts to achieve remarkable biosecurity outcomes on our beautiful Kapiti Coast.The role will have a primary focus on:The management and improvement of biosecurity services on Council owned or administered parks and open spacesThe development, delivery, and support of districtwide biosecurity activities and projects, as well as providing subject matter advice to Council and the communitySupport to community stakeholders and volunteer interest groups that contribute to successful project and programme outcomes as they relate to landscapesWork to achieve positive biodiversity and wider ecological outcomes by collaborating with the Advisor/Senior Advisor Biodiversity on biodiversity projects as requiredWe believe in the potential of diverse experiences and backgrounds. You may be the right candidate for this role!Skills and experience:Hold a relevant qualification (e.g., Bachelor of Science in Ecology, Environmental Science, etc.) with at least two years of relevant experienceValid, standard Growsafe or higher relevant certificationProficient knowledge of ecological principles and processes and ecological pest management and controlDemonstrated, high-level track record in addressing biosecurity issuesDemonstrated success in working with the community, interest groups, and landowners on projectsAbility to safely and effectively undertake tasks of a physical nature (e.g., lifting, digging)A working knowledge of firearms-based pest control operationsGood working knowledge of relevant local and central government legislation, including the Greater Wellington Regional Pest Management Plan, the Reserves Act 1977, the Wildlife Act 1953, the Resource Management Act 1991, and the Local Government Act 2002Robust knowledge and experience working with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, particularly how it applies to contract management and work site safetyEffective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to customer service and capability for working with a wide range of people within and outside the organisationDemonstrated analytical skills, including problem solving, the ability to understand and quickly assimilate complex material, and the ability to identify relevant information and present it effectively in presentations or written reportsDemonstrated effective project management skills, with a track record of managing assigned projects to on-time and within-budget delivery, while monitoring risks and providing updates to key stakeholdersHolder of a valid and current full NZ driver's licenceAbout usBeautiful beaches and a short journey to or from Wellington make the Kapiti Coast a great place to live and work.
