Help HelpDutiesYou will perform a wide variety of biological science support tasks related to wildlife surveys, wildlife capture and handling, vegetation/habitat surveys, invasive species management and removal, water quality monitoring and other general natural resource management activities.Some of the duties you will perform include, but are not limited to:Implement established natural resource projects.Collect, enter, and organize field data, including use of ArcGIS.
Ensures quality control of data.Perform routine and recurring testing of collected samples.Make field observations of natural resource conditions.Evaluate observed conditions and problems and makes preliminary determination of the cause.Assist in preparation of reports, plans and guidelines.Draft project reports and prepares map, graphs and/or charts and summaries of findings.Provide logical support and area information.Isle Royale National Park is a water-based park and travel by motorboat is required to conduct fieldwork.
Federal motorboat operation training is provided and required.
You will be expected to work in a variety of environmental conditions; weather can vary from near-freezing temperatures with rain and snow in May to hot and humid weather in late summer.
Often work occurs in remote locations in backcountry/wilderness areas of the park.
Bio-techs must be in good physical condition and able to hike one-way distances of up to 12 miles over rough terrain while carrying loads of 50 pounds or more.
Biting insects or other pests such as black flies, deer flies and mosquitoes are common.
NOTE: Due to the need to pilot a federal motor vessel, this is a drug tested position.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentU.S.
