Hillmorton High School is a diverse urban coeducational school situated in the South-West of Christchurch. The school is a fast growing Y7–13 school with dedicated middle and senior schools. We have a roll of around 1300 and with further building works underway, the roll is expected to increase in the next few years. We provide students with a caring and supportive environment, to help them achieve academic excellence, leadership skills and a love of learning.
The role
We are seeking a bilingual Learning Assistant for an immediate start to join our English Language Learning Department to support the progress, engagement and achievement of akonga at Te Kura Tuarua o Horomaka whose primary language is Arabic.
Please note this position is for a fixed term and not permanent, the position will end on 13th December 2024. There may be further opportunities in 2025, we are interested in receiving expressions of interest for a similar role for a Farsi speaker in 2025.
This is a part-time, term-time only position, working 5 hours per week, days and hours by negotiation and will be reviewed termly based on need. Remuneration is based on the Support Staff (Teacher Aide) in Schools Collective Agreement.
The role would be primarily working with small groups of three or four students from year 7 to year 13. The work itself would be provided. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with teenagers, someone who is approachable, engaging, warm, empathetic, enthusiastic, motivated, and uses their initiative.
Qualifications and Experience
Previous Learning Assistant experience not necessary
Fluency in Arabic and English essential
Applicants will be required to undergo police vetting and cannot be appointed until a successful result has been received. Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand and reside here.
