Job Description & Key Responsibilities
This is a hands-on position with technical, sales and managerial responsibilities.
CoolCar Air-Conditioning & Heating is a summer-seasonal business. You will require your high levels of organisation, prompt decision-making skills and resilience during this crucial period.
Managerial
You will:
Play a crucial role in managing our workshop operations and ensuring the highest standards of customer service, staff management, and operational efficiency.
Effectively prioritize tasks with a strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship from the team, in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
Participate in recruitment, training and performance of workshop staff, including delegation of tasks and supervision of output.
Facilitate a harmonious work environment and contribute to staff development.
Liaise with support staff and business owners.
Maintain a strong focus on delivering high-quality workmanship, ensuring repairs and installations meet industry standards and customer expectations.
Manage inventory levels of automotive air conditioning and auto electrical components and consumables, ensuring optimal levels to support efficient operations, cost control and timely repairs.
Oversee the efficient completion of administrative tasks by the workshop staff, including work orders, invoices, and warranty claims, while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
Have responsibility for managing the assets of the business, including ensuring maintenance is performed.
Have daily responsibility for the delivery of a safe working environment for workshop staff and work with owners to develop the safety culture at the workshop.
Technical
You will be required to work on diagnosing and repairing passenger cars, heavy equipment, trucks and tractors, including electric and hybrid vehicles.
Repairs involve identifying and replacing faulty and leaking air-conditioning components to ensure a lasting repair in accordance with New Zealand's climate protection laws, as refrigerants are potent synthetic greenhouse gases and we handle them responsibly.
CoolCar manufactures and installs components for new air-conditioning in hot rods and classic vehicles as well as restorations, installation and repair of mobile roof top air-conditioning units and installation of air-conditioning components to outfit mobility vehicles with rear air-conditioning which involve a wiring component.
In addition to our main activities above, the workshop repairs portable fridge/freezers and satisfies the off-grid power requirements for caravans and motorhomes, where your auto electrical experience will be required.
We carry out auto electrical repairs, basic mechanical repairs and all manner of work (except Warrants or Certificates of Fitness) required on caravans and motorhomes in liaison with electricians, gas fitters and other trades where required.
Sales
You will:
Use your prior experience and customer service skills to evaluate vehicles for air-conditioning, heating and other repairs, including auto electrical repairs and successfully convert your recommendations into sales.
Manage customer expectations and complaints.
Develop and deliver on sales targets and control costs (and other KPIs established with owners) to achieve a profitable workplace.
Provide feedback on marketing, new business ideas and efficiencies to increase turnover and profitability.
Minimum Skill Requirements:
Auto electrician with at least five years' experience.
Knowledge of automotive air conditioning systems, diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques and repair procedures, with at least five years' experience, including removal of dashboards in a variety of vehicle makes and models.
Previous experience with customer service.
Successful staff management.
English language and numeracy skills sufficient to perform required documentation, training and instruction, costing and communication of jobs to customers and staff.
Pass a pre-employment Health Assessment and Drug and Alcohol Test, Criminal & Credit history check to our satisfaction.
Current driver's licence must be held.
Key Terms & Conditions:
This is a full time, permanent position.
Remuneration is $40.00 to $50.00 per hour.
CoolCar is a summer seasonal business.
Summer commences 2nd Sunday in October and Winter commences 3rd Sunday in March.
Winter hours
Hours are 0800 - 1630 Monday to Friday.
Minimum guaranteed hours per week are 40.
As your role includes managerial responsibility for the workshop, additional hours may be required.
Summer hours
Hours are 07.45 -1730 Monday to Friday and rostered Saturdays.
Minimum guaranteed hours per week are 46.25.
As our business is summer seasonal, and your role includes managerial responsibility your availability for hard work and additional hours can be expected.
Additional hours may include early starts, late finishes and being available to work rostered and additional Saturday hours on an 'as and when' and required basis.
Availability: Given the nature of the employee's role and the summer-seasonality of the business, to meet the operational requirements of the business, it is expected approximately:
10 hours, in addition to the normal (46.25) hours per week in Summer, may be required and
3 hours, in addition to the normal (40) hours per week in Winter, may be required to be worked.
Compensation: In recognition of the requirement for the employee to be available to work these additional hours, if required; as well as compensation for cancellation of additional hours at short notice and recognising that overtime hours may not always be available, an availability allowance of $5.00 per 'anticipated hour' shall be paid, proportional to ordinary hours worked.
Where these extra hours are required to meet the operational needs of the business, they must be accepted.
Overtime worked is paid at the employee's normal hourly rate.
Additional overtime (above 10 summertime and 3 wintertime hours), where agreed to by the employer and employee, shall be paid at the employee's normal hourly rate.
