The primary purpose of this position is to support our communities' akonga to attend and engage in learning at school.The Attendance Officer will work collaboratively with akonga, schools, whanau, the Ministry of Education, iwi, and other organisations and agencies in our community. They will put akonga and whanau at the heart of their practice, be collaborative, and take a strengths-based, inclusive, and culturally affirming approach.We are looking for someone who:Has the skills to make a positive difference to school attendance across the Westland RegionCan evidence working effectively with akonga, young people, and teenagers across cultures and communitiesCan understand, encourage, and promote learning to support akonga to value their educationCan work effectively with whanau to support akonga attendance and engagementIs positive and consistent in pursuing successful attendance at school for all akonga and their whanauKnows our community and the wide range of support groups and organisations available to support akonga attendance and engagement in schoolDemonstrates strong communication skills across all sectorsThe successful applicant will take responsibility for leading and managing the Westland school attendance service and will have access to a work-only vehicle. This includes planning, monitoring, and reporting on attendance in relation to targets.Vacancy closes 10th December 5pm.
