Assistant WinemakerLocation: Central Otago, OtagoEmployment Type: Full TimeWe are seeking an Assistant Winemaker for our small business. This role is multi-faceted and will be a key member of Matt Connell Wines. The Assistant Winemaker will help oversee the production of a range of wines for ourselves and our contract clients.This role will commence August 2024, or earlier by arrangement.The position is a physically-active role and requires a strong balance of hands-on and technical skills.Duties include but are not limited to:Assist in supervising all day-to-day cellar operationsSupervise and train vintage staffAssist with laboratory analysisReview and implementation of SOPOversee safety training and management of compliance issues to provide a safe workplaceMaintain winery equipmentFinish wines for bottlingHosting at our onsite tasting room and engaging with our customers, when requiredAssist with contract crossflow filtration across the regionDesired skills and experience:Degree in Oenology or equivalentExperience with both the practical and technical aspects of the winemaking process, both fermentation and finishing winesConfident communication and leadership skillsStrong maths and lab skillsExperience in a premium winemaking environment focused on pinot noirStrong organizational, teambuilding and problem solving skills, with strong attention to detailStrong forklift operating skillsGreat communication skills, both written and spokenGreat sense of humourAbility to work flexible hoursHow To ApplyPlease apply with confidence your resume and covering letter by 14th July 2024.All applicants must be NZ based or have the right to work in New Zealand.
