Greyhound Racing NZ Limited (GRNZ) is the controlling body of the sport in New Zealand, conducting and promoting the sport across the nation. GRNZ's primary responsibility is to ensure the responsible and ethical management and participation in the sport through the effective enforcement of local and national rules and conducting race day operations. There are four tracks (Auckland, Palmerston North, Cambridge & Wanganui) located in the North Island with two further tracks located in the South Island. (Christchurch & Invercargill)Key Responsibilities:We are seeking a highly motivated individual to assist with the track maintenance at our Whanganui site which supports racing once per week as well as a trial session on a two turn sand track and straight grass track. Reporting directly to the Whanganui Track Manager, you will assist in the monitoring, management and maintenance of a quality racing surface and associated racing infrastructure at this venue.The role will have a major focus on track surface management and preparation, irrigation system maintenance, infrastructure and machinery maintenance as well as managing an effective and cohesive workforce. Taking the lead on overseeing the delivery of the GRNZ diagnostic program will form an important part of this role.To be successful in this position you will need to have or prepared to obtain:A strong work ethicA willingness to learnGood communication and time management skills as well as the ability to work autonomously as well as a part of a team is essential.The physical capabilities to meet the requirements of the positionExperience with tractors and specialized machineryBasic mechanical knowledgeBasic computer skills and data entryA flexible work approach to perform a wide variety of tasksQualifications or previous experience in Racetrack or Turf Management, Horticulture or Agriculture will be well regarded but not essentialUnderstanding of the greyhound racing industry and work, health and safety issues applicable to greyhound racing tracks; understanding of animal welfare issues applicable to greyhound racing tracks.A clean Police recordA valid NZ driver's licence is requiredThere will be a requirement and expectation for out of normal working hours availability, including regular weekends and special events.What We Offer:You will join a team that is committed and passionate about improved greyhound welfare and dedicated to ensuring the sustainability, integrity and success of racing in New Zealand.
