The Assistant Director will serve as a critical strategic leader within the Advanced Manufacturing (AM) Cluster in A*STAR Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), driving the overall vision, strategic direction, and stakeholder engagement for the Lab-of-the-Future (LOF) initiative. This role requires someone who can lead cross-functional teams, align programme goals with broader A*STAR initiatives, and act as a central point for all strategic planning, external partnerships, and stakeholder management. The role demands a balance between high-level strategic thinking and hands-on management to ensure the LOF initiative achieves its key milestones and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive strategic plans for LOF, including short-term goals and long-term roadmaps. Align strategic objectives with A*STAR's broader research and innovation priorities.
Act as the main liaison between AM cluster and internal/external stakeholders, including A*STAR research institutes, government agencies, IHL collaborators and industry partners. Build strong relationships to ensure effective collaboration and partnership.
Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across BMRC and SERC to ensure alignment with the LOF initiative's strategic objectives.
Oversee the implementation of strategic plans, ensuring that the initiative stays on track with its goals, timelines, and resource utilization. Manage risk and ensure delivery of key milestones.
Identify opportunities to incorporate advanced technologies (lab automation, AI, data & computing), and align with global trends to ensure relevance in scientific discoveries.
Oversee budgetary planning and ensure that all financial resources are used effectively to support initiative goals.
Work closely with finance teams to monitor and adjust financial planning.
Lead efforts to implement organizational change as part of the digital transformation within A*STAR's research ecosystem, particularly in advancing lab automation and data integration.
Support tasks/assignments within AM cluster on an as-needed basis, ensuring timely execution of all ongoing initiatives and projects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Science, Engineering, Technology Management, or related field.
5 years of work experience in a research or technology environment. Background in strategic planning, stakeholder management, or programme leadership is advantageous.
Proven track record in leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects, with an emphasis on research innovation and digital transformation.
Strong understanding of lab automation, AI, data, and computing technologies within a research context.
Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
