Our Customs Officer and Assistant Customs Officerpositions are entry level operational rolesthat provide foundational knowledge and experience for your Customs career.Working as part of a team to protect New Zealand and its people can be interesting and highlyrewarding. Our workforce isdiverse and we welcome applicants with a variety of skills, experience, and backgrounds.If you have excellent customer service skills, and enjoy working in a fast paced environmentwhere you welcome people and assist them with queries, you may want to become an AssistantCustoms Officer. If you have these skills and are also interested in focusing on law enforcementand identifying risk, you may be interested in becoming a Customs Officer. Both of these rolesrequire people with a high level of judgement and the flexibility to work a variety of shiftsincluding weekends, nights and public holidays.Here's what you'll need: I am a New Zealand Citizen or have a New Zealand Permanent Resident Visa (with no travelrestrictions).I have the highest levels of integrity, honesty, trust and discretionI'm committed to working shift work. Customs operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,365days a year; this means working shifts that include public holidays, nights andweekends.I'm able to work in an environment where I will be sitting or standing for longperiods oftime and have a level of fitness that allows me to lift heavy and awkward baggage, packandunpack cargo, climb ship ladders, and search confined spaces if required.I have a full current New Zealand driver licence.I have a real commitment to keeping the New Zealand border safe and secure.I am willing to undertake a full medical and drug screening if I am offered aposition.Learn more about what it's like to be a Customs Officer or Assistant CustomsOfficer Assistant Customs Officers are typically based at Auckland Airport and are the first point ofcontact for people entering and leaving our country. You'll be directing and processingpassengers, answering queries and supporting the wider team to protect New Zealand and NewZealanders. If you're passionate about providing exceptional customer service and interested inworking as part of a team in a fast paced, dynamic environment, this could be a greatopportunity for you.Hours of Work Assistant Customs Officers work in the early morning or late evening, either full-time or ona 4 hour part-time shift.Training and Development You'll attend a comprehensive two week course to introduce you to Customs and train you inthe following and more:Immigration theory and practiceThe Treaty of WaitangiOfficer Safety and Tactics (de-escalation of situations and self-defence)After successfully completing your training, you'll be assigned to a work area where you'llreceive coaching to cement your learning and have the opportunity to develop your skills.Salary and Allowances As a full-time Assistant Customs Officer you will receive a starting salary of approximately$49,192 and regular incremental increases as you gain experience in the role. You will alsoreceive four weeks' annual leave, three days' service holidays, overtime payments, anduniform laundering.
