This is a rare opportunity to join Te Papa's art curatorial team for a 4-5 month fixed term position to develop your curatorial skills in a supportive and progressive environment.
You will work closely with others in the organisation to:
Contribute to collection development and planning for the Historical Art Collection.Conduct research under the guidance of curatorial staff on specific projects which could include acquisitions, exhibitions, web content, and/or publications.Contribute to the research, development and delivery of upcoming exhibition projects.Support acquisitions and loans activities by liaising nationally and internationally, establishing and/or maintaining relationships with artists, museums, galleries, cultural organisations, dealers and private collectors.The ideal person for this position will have:
A tertiary qualification (preferably post-graduate) in art history, fine arts, curatorial studies and/or museum studies.Outstanding oral and written communication skills.Strong research skills and attention to detail.Some experience working on exhibitions and/or writing about art in a gallery environment.A passion for art and working with collections.Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop a rapport with a wide range of people.Ability to work co-operatively and collaboratively as a member of the team.Awareness of and sensitivity towards tikanga Maori, particularly as it relates to taonga.Commitment to cross-cultural dialogues.Competent Windows and MS Office skills.Ability to plan and meet deadlines and report accurately on activities.The starting salary for this position will be between $67,669 - $80,357.
