__________University of Otago, ChristchurchDivision of Health SciencesTe Wahanga Matua Matau HauoraAre you looking for a varied and exciting career where no two days are the same?Te mahi /The roleWe are seeking two Assistant Animal Care Technicians (weekend cover) to support the existing team at the Christchurch Animal Research Area (CARA), located within the University of Otago's Christchurch campus.The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including:Providing daily husbandry and care for a range of animals.Managing and maintaining breeding colonies under both conventional and specific pathogen-free conditions.Assisting with large animal care.Performing cage sanitisation and operating autoclaves.This position offers the chance to contribute to a diverse array of research projects while applying your animal care skills and passion for working with animals.Skills and experience/Ka pukeka me ka wheakoWe are looking for individuals who are passionate about working with a variety of animal species and are dedicated to ensuring their comfort and well-being while in our care.Key attributes for this role include:Familiarity with computer systems.Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate and reliable records.Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.A reasonable level of fitness, as the role involves lifting.A high degree of responsibility and integrity, as the position often requires working independently.While not essential, a Veterinary Care qualification or equivalent experience would be highly advantageous.About our team/Mo te timaCARA plays a vital role in advancing biomedical research, providing facilities for housing and supplying laboratory and large animals for research purposes, ensuring ethical and high-standard animal care.Our dedicated team of animal care professionals is committed to the ongoing welfare of animals within our care, upholding rigorous ethical standards.
We also offer technical support, specialised training, and expert guidance to various units and departments across the University.As an approved Containment and Quarantine Facility under the Ministry for Primary Industries and the New Zealand Government, we uphold the highest standards of compliance and care.Further details/PurokoThese are permanent, part-time roles (19hrs/fortnight), located in Christchurch.
