Assistant Accountant/Technician

Our Company Edtech Financial Services provides accounting services to schools. Our accountants and technicians form a friendly, supportive and high-trust team. We are based at lovely offices in Parnell, and mainly work remotely, but on-site in our schools where necessary.  This role is based onsite at a friendly school in Mangere.  The Role We seek an assistant accountant/technician to deliver high quality financial support services.  This is a new role and will be a mix of onsite and remote work, but likely four days per week during the school day, term time only.    The role will require some part-time work though the establishment phase in November/December, which will include support and training, hours to be negotiated.  As of 28th January 2025, core hours will be 30 hours per week, 40 weeks of the year (school terms plus two extra days each term). It may be possible to vary these hours by agreement. This is a permanent position, 42 weeks per annum + holidays. The right person will show initiative, take responsibility, build positive relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders, work accurately under pressure at times, and have a sense of humour.  Cultural competence is important. Experience in schools would be an advantage. Experience in office accounting and financial management process is essential.  The Team Ongoing support, training, mentoring and supervision will be provided by senior Edtech accountants both on and off-site. Responsibilities Reconcile all cash payments, maintain all accounting records in Xero, process supplier and debtor invoices, prepare weekly payment batches for the school to approve, process electronic batch payments, collate unpaid invoices and creditor statements, daily bank reconciliations, monitor creditor and debtor aged trial balances, file copies of documents and information as required for monthly reconciliation and audit purposes  Requirements An intermediate level of accounting knowledge, ideally with some progress towards a CA qualification or similar. Experience in a similar roleThe ability to engage with clients to build strong relationships.Good communication skills, both spoken and written English.Cultural competence/comfort with Treaty of Waitangi A positive attitude with a willingness to help others.Strong organisational and time management skills.Accuracy, efficiency with great attention to detailSound working knowledge of Xero and Excel is essential.Previous experience in a school would be an advantage Please submit your CV and a cover letter including employer references and full employment history.
