The role We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Catchment Operations Group, based in Palmerston North. This is a full-time, fixed term position of approximately twelve months. You will be providing GIS and data support for our teams working across the region, ensuring a consistent approach to the management of our river and drainage infrastructural assets and operational work programme that provide vital flood protection to our community. You will be expected to carry out a mix of duties including: Providing and maintaining up to date, accurate information for both internal and external stakeholders regarding the condition and maintenance of River Managements over $960 Million of assets. Support for other staff with their technical requirements. While our preference is a person with at least a couple of years' experience, we will also offer training and support for the right candidate. About you We're open to applicants from a range of backgrounds, and for the right person there will be some learning on the job. The important thing is a desire to make our region a great place to live, work and play through supporting our teams with the river and drainage activities. We are looking for candidates with a strong background in data management and geospatial data (GIS). You might have some experience working alongside engineers, asset managers or indeed another background entirely. The key skills that would allow someone to be successful in this role involve relating information back to the real world. You will be working with a mix of internal staff and provide an important link between the office and field teams of the Catchment Operations Group. As well as having sound technical knowledge, you will have very good communication skills, be able to relate well with a range of customers. You will have the ability to build strong relationships with staff and have a positive and friendly attitude. Being familiar with Horizons' major work programmes and having knowledge of Local Government processes and procedures would be beneficial. Why should you apply?
