The objective of Amateur Radio Emergency Communications is to support:
Search and Rescue (SAR) in New Zealand,
Civil Defence and other emergency services in New Zealand,
Community groups throughout New Zealand.
We provide experienced and competent radio communications personnel and technical solutions for the delivery of robust communications to meet their needs.
The National CEO AREC is responsible for effectively and efficiently leading the Amateur Radio Emergency Communications (AREC) Operations group in conjunction with a Council-endorsed management team, including:
Liaising with recognised customers and partners of AREC.
Leading and coordinating the AREC Management Group and its affairs.
Reporting to NZART Council, which may be done through a Council-appointed AREC Liaison Councilor.
The job of the CEO is to manage AREC Operations in accordance with the MOU between NZART Council and the NZART AREC Emergency Funds Charitable Trust Board, aligning with the Council and Trust incorporation deeds, associated policies of both organisations, and commonly accepted business and professional practice and ethics.
In this regard, the CEO supports the Trust Board and liaises with the trustees to ensure the trust operates in accordance with the trust deed, including:
Keeping the Board informed of the true and accurate position of the outcomes of programs and services, financial position, significant management issues, and all matters having real or potential legal/organisational risk considerations for AREC Operations.
Informing the Board of significant trends, implications of Board decisions, issues arising from policy matters, or changes in the basic assumptions upon which the Board's strategic Results policies are based.
Presenting information in a manner that enhances Trustees' understanding of the issues contained therein.
Keeping Trustees informed when there is actual or anticipated non-compliance of a Board policy or standard.
Marshalling for the Board as many staff, volunteers, and external points of view, issues, and opinions as needed for fully informed Board choices.
Maintaining a complete manual of sound operational practices in line with industry norms and best practice.
AREC Operations is primarily a volunteer organisation, with the AREC Groups formed and operated by the NZART Branches.
