Archaeologist based in Christchurch- Ref 262 Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the protection and conservation of New Zealand's historic heritage?
At Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga (HNZPT), we identify, conserve, and promote the important heritage places and cultural landscapes in Aotearoa New Zealand. We strive to ensure our country's bicultural and other histories are accessible for all New Zealanders. Within this role, you will have the opportunity to administer the archaeological provisions of the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act (the Act) 2014 and to raise awareness and understanding of archaeology in New Zealand.
HNZPT welcomes applications from people with knowledge and experience of the statutory archaeological processes under the Act and other legislative processes, along with skills and competence in archaeological assessment, investigation, and compliance. Adaptability and proven experience to deliver work within fast-paced processes are essential.
You will work as part of a supportive, friendly local team of archaeologists and other heritage professionals, and with other professional colleagues nationwide. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be required to effectively communicate expert archaeological advice to both internal and external stakeholders, including archaeological consultants, property owners, local authorities, developers, and whanau/hapu/iwi and professionals in other fields.
This role is based in either our Canterbury West Coast office in central Christchurch or in our Otago Southland office in central Dunedin.
A tertiary qualification (MA) and professional experience in New Zealand archaeology is essential.
