We have an opportunity for two passionate aquaculture technicians to join the Finfish team based at our Cawthron Aquaculture Park, assisting with our research programmes and commercial trials.
One of the positions will be permanent full-time (37.5 hours/week), with the other fixed-term full-time (until the end of 2025).About the rolesThe roles will involve a range of work such as general animal husbandry, recirculating aquaculture systems maintenance, cleaning, and experimental setup.
Tasks may also include assisting with fish assessments, data and sample collection, and helping in the laboratory performing water quality, sample analyses, and fish necropsies.Day of work will be as per a rotating roster, thus suitable candidates need to be available to work weekends, as rostered, and once fully trained, be on an on-call roster.About youWe're looking for candidates with excellent observational and communication skills, and be a team player with excellent communication and an eye-for-detail.
You will also ideally have:A Bachelor's degree in Aquaculture, or other closely-aligned tertiary qualificationAt least 2 years' experience in fish husbandry or related workExperience in, and/or an understanding of the operation of recirculating or land-based aquaculture systemsExperience in data collection and a demonstrated understanding of fish performance measures will be advantageousExperience in fish necropsies and sample collection, and a good understanding of fish health indicatorsBe able to lift and/or carry up to 20kg (due to the physical nature of the role)Why work for us?We are committed to being a Living Wage Accredited employer.
The salary range for this role is between $55,000-65,000/year.
