We are looking for an experienced Principal Advisor to lead and contribute to the work of the Programme Support Team.

The Programme Support Team is part of the Regional Support and Alignment Directorate and contributes to national programmes such as whanau ora and Whi Kainga Whai Oranga.

It is also responsible for leading the work of Te Puni Kokiri in Treaty of Waitangi negotiations, post-settlement Ministerial Accords, the National Iwi Chairs Forum and other related Treaty settlement kaupapa.

Te whai wahitanga The opportunity We are seeking someone with a high level of policy, Treaty of Waitangi and machinery of government experience.

You will have the ability to build, maintain and enhance strategic relationships within Te Puni Kokiri, and externally with other agencies and entities.

You will have a proven ability to lead complex cross-government work programmes and mentor relevant people working on the programmes.

In particular, the Principal Advisor in the Programme Support Team Regional Support should:

Have an understanding of tikanga Maori and a commitment to achieve the vision set out in te Tiriti o Waitangi; Have experience and confidence in engaging with senior leaders, Ministers and external stakeholders; Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; Be able to respond to changing demands and priorities, deal with ambiguity and give shape to unformed ideas; Understand government and the public service with an understanding of the rationale and mechanisms for government intervention; Value diverse perspectives and experience; Manage your effort to deliver work to a high standard and on time, both independently and with the support of others; Mentor junior members of the team to help with their development and confidence; Be able to work directly to the General Manager, Regional Support and Alignment.
