Animal Shelter Officer - Kennel Focused

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Shelter Officer to join our team to support Animal Management's primary focus of keeping Aucklanders safe from animal-related nuisance and harm. This shelter officer role is essential in ensuring the well-being of all dogs in our shelter. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:Ensure all animals receive proper care, including feeding, exercise, and enrichment activities.Maintain a clean and safe environment for all shelter staff and animals.Reunite lost dogs with their owners and work with dogs that may have behavioral challenges.Assist the vet with various tasks including euthanasia.Build and maintain exceptional relationships with both internal and external customers.Follow up on the requirements imposed by the Dog Control Act 1996.Complete office tasks such as processing paperwork, facilitating adoptions, and educational initiatives.This is a physically demanding role that requires you to be on your feet for most of the day and involves significant cleaning duties. It is also a highly rewarding role where you will work in a small team with other like-minded people while contributing positively to the lives of dogs and their owners. There is room for professional development within the team and wider Animal Management unit.To succeed in this role, you will need:Ability to work one weekend day and public holidays as required.Physical stamina to handle the demands of the job.Previous experience in animal handling or husbandry is preferred.
