Join us and represent the district in keeping our communities safe! We are on the search for dedicated Animal Control Officers to join our team and make a positive impact in our communities!
Together, at Te Kaunihera aa Takiwaa o Waikato (Waikato District Council), we serve the Waikato District covering more than 400,000 hectares (418.893ha). Key towns include Raglan, Huntly, Ngaaruawaahia, Tuakau and Te Kauwhata. Smaller settlements include Gordonton, Matangi, Tamahere, Meremere, Port Waikato and Pookeno.
We have a few opportunities available from entry level to experienced and welcome your application as we'd love to have a conversation about seeing where you'd best fit into our team.
You may come with compliance experience or be someone with all the right qualities and skillset we're describing and have the ability and desire to learn and excel. 
The roles encompass a wide range of responsibilities, where you will play an integral part, ensuring our communities are kept safe while being proactive with compliance and legislation.
You will be part of a supportive team where genuine animal welfare and our community safety is at the forefront of "doing the right thing", while being supported by a cohesive and diverse culture. You will deliver on promoting and encouraging animal care through engagement, education, and enforcement.
The Role: Be proactive and responsive with Customer Service while interacting with a diverse array of individuals within our communities. Address complaints, not only related to dogs but roaming livestock. You'll be tasked with conducting thorough investigations that adhere to strict legal guidelines, as you may occasionally be asked to present evidence in court. Meet legislative requirements and deliver in a consistent and professional manner. Priortise service requests and ensure records are maintained and reported on accordingly. To be successful in this role, you will: Have previous training, qualifications, or experience with animal care (kennel attendant, vet nurse, animal handling; particularly dog s and stock). Have experience with animal compliance or be someone with all the right qualities and has the ability and desire to learn and excel.  Have successful experience, confidence, and composure under stress, when navigating relationships through conflicts, resulting in successful resolution of disputes. Have a high level of computer/literary skills. Have knowledge of health and safety requirements and responsibility relevant to the position. Understand legislation relevant to animal control, impounding and local government. Hold a current full driver's licence. An understanding of, or the desire to learn about, te ao Maaori and tikanga. Knowledge, or a willingness to gain an appreciation, of te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ture Whaimana. Additional Information: We have a strong safety culture and as part of this our preferred candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening which includes a medical, alcohol and drug testing.
