Data in the right hands can tell a compelling story

Help us shine a light on the unknown for our customers
Bring your energy and skills to our highly engaged team with a great culture

We are looking for people as passionate about data as we are. In Sector Insights, we are united in a common goal of using data to drive insights to inform decision making by justice sector leaders. We support justice agencies to work together to deliver ambitious results for a fair and safe Aotearoa.
Your role as analyst is a catalyst for change and improvement based on empirical data. Not just hunches or maybes, but well researched, robust data which tells a clear and engaging story.
You will use the data available to you to investigate a myriad of issues facing the justice sector, sometimes with a well-defined hypothesis beforehand, and sometimes to solely explore the data and see what jumps out.
Your natural curiosity and keen analytical skills will illuminate previously undiscovered issues and opportunities for growth; insights, that without this investigation, would remain hidden and the data meaningless. Your role is to communicate the same story, with the same data, across different areas of the business.
Now is an exciting time for you to become part of the Ministry of Justice in Sector Insights as the insights and advice we provide are highly sought after. Our work is characterised by innovation, quality, and impact, and we inform the direction of Justice agencies.
O pukenga/Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will need:

Passion and curiosity - with a strong desire to explore new opportunities for using data insights
A positive can-do attitude and willingness to learn
Flexibility to respond to ambiguity, multiple deadlines and changing priorities
Strong interpersonal skills to build and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders
A delivery focus, with persistence to work towards long term goals
Good communication skills and the ability to translate your findings into a compelling narrative
A strong sense of team, engaging and helping others around you to succeed
A tertiary degree in a relevant field
Experience using analytical software (such as SAS or Excel)

In exchange we will provide you with:

A place you can be yourself
A team with a strong supportive culture
Opportunities to learn and develop
Competitive salary package
