Salary: $63,567 - $84,959
Are you looking for an engaging career that puts your analysis and critical thinking abilities to good use?
Do you want a varied and challenging role that enables you to develop broad range skills?
Do you want to work for a responsive, risk-based team to deliver regulatory excellence?
Are you looking for a friendly, flexible work environment that respects and celebrates diversity?
The mahi
At the Department of Internal Affairs, the work we do makes it possible for community groups and charities to access funding and learn the best way to manage themselves effectively.
At Nga Ratonga Kaupapa Atawhai, Charities Services, we promote trust and confidence in charities, encourage good governance, support charities' efficiency and effectiveness, and require charities to comply with their obligations under the law. Our vision is to contribute to a well-governed, transparent, and thriving charitable sector with strong public support.
As an analyst, you will work within the Registration team, responsible for the registration of charities under the Charities Act 2005. You will assess whether an organisation applying for registration qualifies to become a charity against the legal requirements of the Act. You will also monitor registered charities to ensure they continue to meet the qualifications for registration. To achieve this, you will make informed decisions and recommendations based on well-reasoned analysis and legal interpretation to deliver targeted, risk-based regulatory activity.
What an ideal candidate looks like
You can quickly learn new concepts, including complex legal principles, and apply them through thoughtful analysis. You are detail-oriented when needed and incorporate creativity and big-picture thinking into your decisions. You are self-motivated and seek opportunities for continuous self-improvement. You are comfortable engaging with a range of stakeholders and building relationships. You are independent but also enjoy contributing to the team environment.
You ideally have a background in law or a genuine interest in law, regulation, and governmental processes. You are comfortable reading and interpreting legal documents, case law, and legislation.
Charities Services sits within the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA). As DIA is an agent of the Crown, Te Tiriti o Waitangi is important to everything we do. You will have knowledge of, or the desire to learn about, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and obligations, tikanga, and te ao Maori concepts.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including holding a valid work visa that covers the entire period of employment.
While the Department offers flexible working arrangements, this position requires the applicant to be Wellington-based.
Applications close: 5pm, Tuesday 10 December 2024. Please provide a cover letter with your application.
