Our four teams in the Commercial Performance and Governance (CPG) directorate provide advice to Ministers on the Crown's ownership interest in approximately 50 Crown companies and entities in the Infrastructure, Services and Investment sectors, including some of the largest companies and financial institutions in New Zealand. Our aim is to ensure that these entities are overseen to optimise performance, manage risk and enhance value to support future intergenerational wellbeing.

Korero mo te turanga | About the Role
We have an opportunity for an Analyst in the directorate to work with us to monitor the performance of KiwiRail.
In this role you have the opportunity to:
Undertake a high degree of internal and external stakeholder engagements and build positive working relationships between the Treasury and the company
Apply analytical tools to improve insights into performance, industry dynamics and key drivers of value and risk
Provide timely, well analysed advice to Ministers, in particular the Minister for State Owned Enterprises and Minister of Finance, on opportunities, challenges and risks facing the company
Advise on commercial transactions on behalf of the Crown
Utilise your specific skillset and capabilities to support the team's activities and Treasury's wider objectives.
This is a fixed term opportunity until June 2025.

We are seeking a well-rounded candidate who has:
Excellent communication skills including: an ability to explain complex problems in a relatable manner; the ability to develop succinct and accurate reports; and, strong verbal presentation skills and confidence leading discussions with boards and management
Strong financial analysis skills and sound, qualitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills that support the development of robust financial and strategic analysis of the business, assessment of performance and identifying emerging challenges and opportunities across both short term and long-term horizons
Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills: highly collaborative and can work effectively with colleagues across a diverse organisation
Experience and practical knowledge of strategic and commercial issues, and ideally exposure to project management, transaction management and/or assessment of investments
An understanding of key public sector roles and functions.
