Anaesthetist - Permanent Role Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury (Timaru Hospital)
South Island - New Zealand Currently, we have a vacancy for an Anaesthetist to join the Department of Anaesthesia at Timaru Hospital. Located in the South Island of New Zealand, the district of South Canterbury is centrally located and an easy place to live and work, with instant access to an array of outdoor activities.
Anaesthesia Department at Timaru Hospital The team of ten actively services four theatres, an Obstetric Unit (averaging 590 births per year), and a combined Intensive Care Unit / Coronary Care Unit, all with the assistance of Anaesthetic Technicians and skilled Theatre, Day Patient Stay, and ICU Nursing staff.
The Department is also responsible for Persistent Pain Services in conjunction with Clinical Nurse Specialists, so a subspecialist interest in this area or in Intensive Care would be viewed as beneficial.
Anaesthetist Specialist Role This position provides efficient, safe, and appropriate anaesthetic services, intensive care unit, and pain management treatment, as well as day patient and outpatient clinic sessions.
The position is part-time or full-time (to be negotiated & agreed) and works during the normal hours of work between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm Monday to Friday; and on a rostered On Call basis outside normal hours during the week, at weekends, and on public holidays.
On Call Duties: The after-hours roster frequency is 1:9 to provide cover outside of the normal hours of work, at weekends, and on Public Holidays.
Whilst providing cover, you are first on call. There is also scope to consider engaging in some Private Practice with the local Bidwill Trust Private Hospital at which a number of our existing team have a professional association.
Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury is responsible for the delivery of services throughout the South Canterbury region, and Timaru Hospital (131 beds) serves a district population of approximately 50,000 based in a General Hospital Facility, which has just commenced a significant refurbishment programme, providing our local community with critical 24/7 services such as ED, ICU / CCU, General, Orthopaedic, & ENT Surgery, O&G, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Oncology & Palliative Care, Internal Medicine, and Paediatrics.
