Right now, we have a vacancy for an Anaesthetist to join the department of Anaesthesia at Timaru Hospital.

Anaesthesia Department at Timaru Hospital The team of ten actively services four theatres, an Obstetric Unit (averaging 590 births per year), and a combined Intensive Care Unit / Coronary Care Unit, all with the assistance of Anesthetic Technicians and skilled Theatre, Day Patient Stay, and ICU Nursing staff.
Anaesthetist Specialist Role This position provides efficient, safe, and appropriate anesthetic services, intensive care unit, and pain management treatment as well as day patient and outpatient clinic sessions.
The position is part-time or full-time (to be negotiated & agreed) and works during the normal hours of work between 8.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday; and on a rostered On Call basis outside normal hours during the week, at weekends, and on public holidays.
On Call Duties: The after-hours roster frequency is 1:12 to provide cover outside of the normal hours of work, at weekends, and on Public Holidays.
Whilst providing cover, you are first on call. There is also scope to consider engaging in some Private Practice with the local Bidwill Trust Private Hospital at which a number of our existing team have a professional association with.
Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury is responsible for the delivery of services throughout the South Canterbury region and Timaru Hospital (131 beds) serves a district population of approximately 50,000 based in a General Hospital Facility, which has just commenced a significant refurbishment programme, providing our local community with such critical 24/7 services as ED, ICU / CCU, General, Orthopaedic, & ENT Surgery, O&G, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Oncology & Palliative Care, Internal Medicine, and Paediatrics.
