Anaesthetist Consultant - General Anaesthesia and Level 2 ICU CoverRole RequirementsRemuneration This is a new role in an expanding anaesthesia service currently lead by 16 consultant anaesthetists in a public general hospital in the North Island of New Zealand. The hospital has 300+ beds, 24/7 emergency department and ICU with full range of secondary medical and surgical services. You will join a motivated team to provide anaesthesia services for elective and emergency procedures, emergency medicine, obstetrics and radiology interventions and basic level 2 ICU cover. You will also educate, mentor and supervise junior doctors and medical students.

Key Role Responsibilities: You will provide anaesthesia services for Elective theatre lists for the following surgical specialties: ENT, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Dental Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics and for Emergency surgery for all of the above and acute surgery for ophthalmology and urology.Provision of safe anaesthesia for patients undergoing CardioversionReview and assess patients for ECT and provide anaesthesia for ECTReview post op patients on surgical wardsReview and assess medical and surgical patients with ongoing care/review of chronic pain and instigate treatments/procedures for acute pain, e.g., nerve blocks or epiduralsAssessment and provision of safe sedation for endoscopyAssessment and provision of safe anaesthesia for Elective and Emergency CT, MRI, and interventional radiology patientsTravel to and from the satellite hospital for elective theatre lists for the following surgical specialties: General surgery, Dental Surgery, and Pre-assessment ClinicProvision of safe, appropriate IV access services from inpatient and outpatient referrals as deemed appropriate by the departmentProvision of safe obstetric anaesthetic intervention including epidural and alternative analgesic optionsWard rounds and ongoing patient careICU admissions and management of ICU patientsConduct 6 clinical sessions per week and 3 Non clinical sessions and partake in the on call rota. A basic medical qualification recognised by the Medical Council of New ZealandFRANZCA or equivalent post graduate qualification in anaesthesia and experience eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of NZHold or be eligible for Vocational Registration with Medical Council of NZ in the scope of anaesthesiaA broad range of general anaesthesia skillsFull Driver's LicenceRecent clinical experience in ICU
