Allied Health Assistant (AWHI) at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Hutt Valley, Lower HuttNau mai, haere mai ki Te Whatu Ora - Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley District Contract: Permanent, Full Time Salary: Step 3 to Step 7 The Allied Health Assistant role is a busy and interesting one, as you will be undertaking a wide range of activities at the request of our Allied Health and Nursing staff.
Day to day, you will be installing and teaching people how to use equipment and coaching people in activities designed to help recover strength, cognition, and function.
An important part of the role will be reporting back to the team regarding progress, as well as noticing if our clients/whanau are struggling and require more support.
We know people recover more quickly at home, so the main focus of AWHI is to work with people in their own home to help them regain or maintain their independence after a hospital admission.
These people may have been medically unwell, sustained a significant injury, or had a stroke.
Our team consists of Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Speech Language Therapists, and other Allied Health Assistants, and you would have the opportunity to work with all of these team members.
The primary location of this role is the Hutt Valley, but staff may be requested to work from CC sites if required.
The Assistants are key members of the team.
Our clients need someone kind, efficient, good at communicating, and who is able to motivate people from a range of cultures.
You will need to effectively interpret and deliver on the work requested by our health professionals and be committed to ongoing learning, either holding or being prepared to enroll for the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) Health Assistance Strand.
Experience working for the public health system would be preferred, as would familiarity with equipment management including credentialing with Enable NZ in Service Accreditation as this will support our HCPs to optimize their delegation.

This position is likely to become rostered and rotating involving shifts working through to 8 pm and weekend work as our team is now operating across 7 days.
