Details of the offer

Auckland University Students' Association Auckland CBD, Auckland Board Appointments (CEO & General Management) The Auckland University Student's Association (AUSA) are currently looking for new members for our Advisory Board to help provide advice and strategic expertise to our Student Executive. We currently have several positions vacant. These roles are voluntary and are not remunerated. About AUSA AUSA was founded in 1891, to represent and build student communities at the University of Auckland. Today we continue to advocate for all Auckland students and push for student input and involvement in all matters that impact student life on campus and academically at the University.  AUSA's strategic mission is to: Provide and ensure a truly representation and strong University-wide student voice. Enable students and student groups to create their own great student experiences. Offer meaningful student support to those students who need it for all students at the University. AUSA is run by students for students.  About the Advisory Board  The Advisory Board plays a core strategic and governance role for AUSA and is an important mechanism to help enable the Student Executive to successfully govern the association, maximise student engagement and influence and grow sustainably for the future. The Advisory Board is made up of ten individuals with proven skills, expertise, and commitment to helping guide the next generation of New Zealand leaders. The Board meets, in person, approximately every eight to ten weeks at the University of Auckland, with AUSA's Senior Student Leadership Team and the Association's General Manager. The Board's role is to offer advice, support, guidance and mentoring to enable AUSA's Student Executive to run AUSA, be prudent with its income and investments and effectively manage its staff. The Board asks challenging questions, bringing a wider perspective and viewpoint to matters under consideration to ensure all relevant factors are considered in any decision.  The Board's role is primarily to recommend and advise - it does not have decision-making ability for AUSA - this is the responsibility of the elected students. The Role The Advisory's Board focus is to have an overarching view of AUSA from a governance and strategic perspective, ensuring the association is well run, financially responsible, democratically representative and delivering maximum value in advocating for the students at the University of Auckland. Unless there are specific problems The Board has identified, it typically is not involved in the day-to-day operations of AUSA – this is left to the General Manager and staff of the Association. As a member of the Advisory Board you will help add long-term value to the achievement of AUSA's mission, by advising and supervising the strategic management of AUSA. This will involve: Ensuring AUSA has a strategic plan, that its goals are clearly established, and that strategies are in place for achieving them. Ensuring AUSA is in a strong financial position. This includes reviewing AUSA's budget, and recommending whatever steps are necessary to protect AUSA's financial position and its ability to meet its debts and other obligations when they fall due. Monitoring the performance of management. Recommending policies for strengthening the performance of AUSA. These will include ensuring that management are proactively seeking to achieve our mission and outcomes, and are positively acting in the interests of students. Reviewing AUSA's agreements with the University, and ensuring that any future agreements are in the interests of AUSA. Ensuring AUSA has appropriate risk management/regulatory compliance policies in place. Ensuring AUSA has appropriate oversight practices to protect the health and safety of all of its people. Ensuring AUSA adheres to high standards of ethics and corporate behaviour. Past experience at AUSA or the University of Auckland as a student or another student association is not required or necessary.  Whilst we will consider all candidate applications, to complement the strengths of existing Board members, the Association is particularly looking for candidates with experience in: the Tertiary or Higher Education sector Financial and Accounting Human Resources Knowledge and experience from a diverse community perspective For more details on AUSA please visit ausa.org.nz. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday, 5 April 2024.   For more information, please contact Alan Shaker, AUSA's President  via email:  (email protected) or phone: 021-023-80890 .
