About this role Mo tenei turanga We have a Permanent, Full-Time Advisor on Deaf Children role at our Maungawhau Office. The Advisor on Deaf Children (AoDC) provides support to families, whanau and educators to achieve desired outcomes for babies and children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The focus of the AoDC support is early years, birth to Year 3 at school. Our Advisors on Deaf Children provide specialist support to babies and children who are deaf or hard of hearing, to their parents / caregivers, and to families and whanau.

This support is in accordance with the goals, objectives and policies of the Ministry of Education. Our Advisors on Deaf Children also provide specialist support which:

Has an early years focus (birth to Year 3 at school) Is family and whanau centred Uses a routine and strength based approach based on priorities identified by parents / caregivers, families and whanau. Salary range: $69,966 - $118,450 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

Experience in deaf education. Experience in a complex organisation. Experience in building relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes. An understanding and applied practice of the principles and strands of Te Whariki: Early childhood curriculum and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo, as well as the key competencies and learning areas of the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga. You will also have the following essential qualifications and capabilities:

A Master of Specialist Teaching (Adviser on Deaf Children, or Deaf and Hard of Hearing) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching (Deaf and Hard of Hearing), or equivalent. Applicants who do not have either of the required qualifications are required to complete the Master of Specialist Teaching (Adviser on Deaf Children, or Deaf and Hard of Hearing) within four years following appointment to an Advisor on Deaf Children position. A teacher of the deaf qualification or speech language therapist qualification or equivalent qualification with at least two years' experience in that role. The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct. About our group and team Matau ropu ake Our team, Te Tai Raro (North) Tamaki Herenga Manawa Central and East, provides leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services such as learning support and education advice and regulation functions for schools and early learning services.

As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level through the Directors of Education, including deep relationships with iwi and hapu.

Our Directors of Education have the lead role and relationship with early learning, kohanga, school and kura, and this means they will be across all the services we provide at a local level.

We also collectively strengthen relationships with our diverse communities who support Maori, Pacific peoples, disabled akonga and / or akonga with learning support needs, and akonga from disadvantaged backgrounds.
