We are invested in providing leadership, support, and expertise to the people of our region to enhance their wellbeing through physical activity and help them enjoy active and healthy lives.About the RoleThe Active Recreation Advisor plays a crucial role in ensuring rangatahi (youth aged 12-18) in Otago have access to a diverse range of quality active recreation opportunities. This is achieved by building partnerships with key stakeholders such as youth groups, schools, and community organisations, and supporting them to co-design and deliver programmes that meet the needs of young people. The role involves coordinating youth leadership panels, advocating for policies that promote youth engagement in physical activity, and strengthening Sport Otago's expertise in active recreation and youth development.Your role will encompass:Identifying opportunities to improve and expand active recreation for rangatahi.Co-designing and facilitating initiatives with youth and partner organisations.Leading a Youth Leadership Panel to guide local youth physical activity programmes.Building relationships with schools, youth groups, and recreation providers.Providing expertise, advice, and coordinating collaborative forums.Advocating for active recreation policies and safe environments for rangatahi.Ensuring initiatives align with Sport Otago's objectives.Ensuring compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.Applying Sport Otago's leadership principles, ensuring inclusivity, equity, and cultural responsiveness in all activities.Collaborating with the wider Sport Otago team to enhance the organisation's profile.To succeed in this role, you will have:Relevant qualification or experience in active recreation and working with rangatahi.Experience achieving positive outcomes with youth.Strong commitment to physical activity's impact on youth wellbeing.Excellent relationship-building, communication, and interpersonal skills.Proven ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines, and handle confidential matters.Collaborative, innovative, and adaptable team player.Proficient in Microsoft programs, with a commitment to professional development.Aligned with Sport Otago's values and holding a current driver's license.Culture is important to us, and we want to hire the right people to support our mahi.
