The Academic Manager (Construction) provides the management and leadership to enable day to day business to occur as planned and has the responsibility for ensuring that a healthy working environment is operating within the Cluster and across the Department. The position holder will work closely with the Head of Department and the other Department Managers to ensure that high academic quality is maintained in the department, that forward planning occurs, actions are taken to enable plans to be achieved, and that clear and effective lines of communication are maintained between staff and students. The role of Academic Manager requires a person to have strong leadership skills and a drive to make a difference for people in the tertiary education sector. Ara is looking for a person who is passionate about providing a high-quality learning experience for the learner and a proven ability to manage change within a team so that the team can continue to be at the forefront of education and improving learning outcomes. The Academic Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that academic and associated administration processes are consistently applied and meet the specified standards. It is this position that will ensure that a model of teaching and working together is the right way, at the right time, by the right people. Academic Manager role requires the establishment and maintaining strong connections with industry to ensure that the qualifications remain at the forefront of meeting the needs of industry and learners. Academic Manager is required to maintain the academic integrity and quality of the qualifications and implement continuous improvement strategies to ensure that Ara strives to be at the forefront of academic choice for learners and industry. • Management experience either in industry or the tertiary education sector. • Experience in leading people and managing projects within industry or the educational sector. • A tertiary qualification that is linked to a technical area of speciality that is applicable to the Programmes of Study. • Able to anticipate business environment changes as well as being able to respond to changes appropriately and innovatively. • Demonstrated appreciation of the necessity for working with existing processes and standards while being prepared to question them at appropriate times and places. • Demonstrated awareness of equity, cultural and bicultural issues and a commitment to biculturalism and the ability to translate these into action. • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety management practices. • Experience, engagement and demonstrated ability in promoting and developing professional practice within a technical profession. • Have worked with a diverse range of people in a variety of settings, for example vocational, cultural, and academic. • An academic/educational background or demonstrated ability to quickly learn to support staff through the development of courses and programmes to meet the needs of future learners and industry.
