We are at the beginning stages of becoming an incorporated society with the goal of building an Abbeyfield House in Wanaka and we are in need of a volunteer Treasurer to join our amazing leadership team. This is a new position and a chance to be part of a team that's going to make a big impact on enabling 'vulnerable' older people to live an independently but together life.
The purpose of the Treasurer role for Abbeyfield House in Wanaka is to provide proactive, professional and accurate support to the executive team in the finance area. This will include setting up and overseeing the organisation's financial administration, reviewing and enforcing financial policies and procedures, budgeting, and financial strategy.
About us
Abbeyfield Wanaka is affiliated with Abbeyfield New Zealand Inc– the parent body for Abbeyfield in New Zealand. We plan to build an Abbeyfield House in Wanaka in the next eighteen months. There are currently 14 Abbeyfield houses in New Zealand providing a home to 161 residents. Abbeyfield House allows for independent living for the over 65's in a social environment and is an affordable option for people with limited assets and income.
All Abbeyfield entities are registered New Zealand charities.
What you'll bring
We are looking for someone with experience in accounting or bookkeeping. This will suit a highly motivated individual, with excellent communication skills, and who is ready to find value in the work they do! This role would also suit someone keen for a governance role in the Wanaka community.
We are looking for someone with the following experience:
5+ years of experience in the financial space.
Experience in the Non-for-profit sector is highly preferred.
Experience generating financial reports and budgeting.
Experience using Xero accounting software.
Previous experience as a Board Treasurer is not required, but if you have some it would be highly valuable.
Our expectations are that you will:
Understand and commit to the Abbeyfield's Wanaka vision and purpose.
Be a strong communicator.
Have excellent relationship and rapport building skills.
Generate Financial Reports, including annual returns.
Advise the Board on Financial Strategy and Fundraising Budgeting.
Oversee the Organization's Financial Administration.
Review and Enforce Financial Policies and Procedures.
Maintain confidentiality of all items discussed in the board meeting.
What you will be signing up for
When you join us at Abbeyfield Wanaka you will get support from the committee locally and also from Abbeyfield New Zealand. We don't have a physical presence in Wanaka so most of the team work from home, with regular support from the team.
This role isn't fixed around regular hours but we estimate it may require up to 5 hours a week once we are established, with the bi-monthly meetings being the only fixed regular requirement on your time, therefore you would have the opportunity to take control of your schedule.
