Open to those with practical finfish facility/fish husbandry experience, this is a great opportunity to be mentored and grow your capability and skills in finfish facility maintenance.What you will be doing | Nga whainga matuaYou will be providing technical assistance in our finfish facility, three days in a week, including general facility maintenance, fish tank and filter cleaning, support maintenance of water abstraction and aquatic life support systems. This position might also assist, as required, with tasks related to (1) fish husbandry including feeding preparation, fish feeding, water quality monitoring and tank set ups; and (2) finfish hatchery workflows, including fish larvae culture and maintenance and culture of live food organisms.This varied role will see you:• Assist with finfish facility maintenance including: cleaning tanks and filters, maintenance of water abstraction and aquatic life support systems.• Assisting with fish husbandry tasks in the finfish facility such as preparing food, feeding fish, fish, tank and water checks, fish moves and data acquisition, among other tasks related to fish husbandry.• Performing general finfish hatchery tasks including, but not limited to; tank cleaning, water quality checks, fish feeding, fish moves, fish measurements, fish imaging, and culturing of live food such as rotifers and artemia.What you will bring | Nga tino pukenga me nga wheakoTo be successful in this role, the minimum qualifications required are:• Ideally practical solutions focused and quick to grasp and adopt new ideas.• Experience in finfish facility maintenance, or similar transferable skills.• Experience and/or sound knowledge of aquaculture and fish husbandry preferred.• Must have some degree of flexibility to work outside normal working hours if needed.• Well-developed interpersonal communication skills.A copy of the Position Description is available for you to view once you click on the 'apply' button.What you will get | Nga hua o tenei turangaThe opportunity to work within a friendly, team-based environment that encourages and supports work-life balance, and to contribute to exciting projects with an organisation which has an excellent reputation for its science and for being a great place to work!
